Charles B. Smith Sr. for County Commissioner - District 2

I am running for Manatee County Commissioner - District 2 to bring proven leadership, extensive experience, and a deep commitment to our community.

 

As the co-founder, President, and CEO of Manatee Harvesting Co. Inc., a business registered since 1991, I have successfully managed multi-million dollar budgets and overseen the employment of thousands of workers. This hands-on experience in the private sector has given me the skills necessary to foster economic development and protect the tax base of Palmetto.

At the age of 26, I made history as the first African American elected to the Palmetto City Commission, where I gained invaluable experience managing large budgets and addressing the needs of our community. During my tenure, I was re-elected four times and served as Vice Mayor, demonstrating my ability to lead and serve with integrity.

 

My public service continued as a Manatee County Commissioner, where I was one of seven overseeing an estimated annual budget of one billion dollars. In this role, I served as 2nd Vice Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners, Chairman of the Public Safety Coordinating Council, and as a Port Authority Commissioner, where I played a key role in overseeing our seaport.

 

I am fully trained and state-certified in all aspects of government, which, combined with my extensive business background, makes me the most qualified candidate to serve as County Commissioner. My leadership style is collaborative, and I believe in the power of partnerships between the private sector and government to drive innovation and create opportunities for all.

 

As County Commissioner, I will prioritize improving housing conditions and encouraging smart growth that benefits all residents. Manatee County needs a leader with the experience and vision to move our city forward, and I am ready to take on that responsibility.
